Our Story Through the Years

From ballfields to bandstands, discover the milestones that shaped Acadia Park.

For over a century, Acadia Park & Community Centre has been at the heart of the Sackville community’s life. From hosting the first Little League games to building gardens, running country jamborees, and creating lasting community spaces, our story is woven into the history of this town. Explore some of the key moments that brought Acadia Park to life.

1924

Acadia Park & Community Centre is founded under the name Acadia Recreation Club Society.

1948

2016

Acadia School in the 1930s, a brick building with a set of steps and columns leading to the front door, multiple large windows, and a sloped roof with a chimney. Now the Sackville Public Library.

Acadia Park & Community Centre donated the land next to the hall to the school board to build Acadia School. Today, the building houses the Sackville Public Library.

1980

Acadia Park’s ballfield is the first in Sackville. It becomes home to the Sackville Acadians Little League team, sponsored by Acadia Park. Over the years, many men’s baseball and fastball teams called the field home.

Acadia Park hosts their first Country Jamboree—a tradition that is still going strong 20 years later.

2009–2010

As more ballfields crop up around Sackville, Acadia Park’s men’s ballfield becomes dormant. Redevelopment begins, transforming the space into a public garden with pathways, flowers, benches, and a gazebo.

Acadia Park builds a community ice rink. It was a challenge as Nova Scotia weather does not allow for a good freeze, causing some great skating days followed by many days of slush. The rink was created for three winters before the warming winters took over.

Acadia Park builds the Charles Fenerty Bandstand for outdoor concerts and jamborees.
